Spring on the horizon
I don’t know about you, but I feel buoyed by the sense of possibility after the government’s announcements on Monday, tempered with frustration that some things are still a long way off, and laced with overwhelmedness at the idea of getting going again after such a strange year! A cocktail of emotions – but how wonderful that the daffodils are appearing and the sun is (right here, right now, at least) shining!
It’s extraordinary how quickly these monthly livestreams come round! Monday will be 1st March, and I’ll be playing the Preludes and Fugues in D (major and minor) as I gradually work my way chromatically up the keyboard through the year. It’s going to be Breakfast Bach this time – tune in to the project Facebook page at 8:30am on Monday to catch the music live.
Hopefully this will put a ‘spring’ in your step for the last week of homeschooling (hang on in there, parents and teachers, you’re doing amazingly!), or set you up well for a week of Zoom meetings (urgh) / sourdough making (so 2020) / boxset rewatching (hang on in there, freelancers, things will come back). If you’re not an early bird, it’ll be available later in the day to watch at your leisure!
Since writing last month I’m happy to report that the project crowdfunder met (indeed, exceeded) its target, so the funds are in place to make this project happen. Hooray! Thank you so much to everyone who donated – I was so touched as the names kept coming in.
Now that these costs are covered, I am launching an online platform for fundraising. All the funds raised at the 48 live performances later in the year will be added to this platform, but it’s also open to other donations, so if you enjoy Monday’s livestream please consider putting the first coins in the tin!
All donations are split equally between the four charities Project 48 is supporting; you can read more about them on the Fundraising page of the website, and I’ll be profiling them on social media over the coming month too. Help Musicians, Youth Music, Future Talent and Live Music Now are four fantastic charities doing incredible work; I’m so happy to be supporting them through this crazy endeavour.
Now that the roadmap out of lockdown gives us some provisional timescales, I’m pinning down dates with the various lovely people around the country who are helping make this project happen. So I hope to announce the first batch of performance dates before long! My plan is still to give all 48 complete live performances during the calendar year of 2021. Having lost the first few months of the year, it’s going to be fairly intensely crammed in – I can’t wait!
